You should also switch off your mobile phone when you are in an area with no signal. If it is on, your phone will continue to search for a signal even if there isn't one available.
This can be a major drain on power.
The backlight also drains phone batteries. To stop this, make sure that your phone is set to switch the backlight off after a few seconds.
You should also ensure that you allow your mobile phone to completely drain of power and recharge it fully occasionally, as this can help extend the shelf life.
If you are using a cordless phone, always return it to the base station after finishing a call, as this acts as the charger.

With concerns about weight and size to take into consideration, manufacturers are always conducting research into new types of phone batteries.
At present the most common phone batteries are NiMH batteries, although lithium-ion batteries are becoming increasingly popular. Lithium batteries also offer the combination of small size and reliability, making them a popular choice.
